In Miami the first AV question is indoors or out, because most of the city’s brand work happens outside.

A Brickell summit or a convention center session is a room problem: speech that reaches the back and screens sized for the last row. A rooftop, a pool deck, or a Wynwood courtyard is a site problem — daylight that washes out projection, salt air, no usable power, and, in the beach districts, neighbors within earshot. We spec each on its own terms and send one crew to run it.

Miami, FL

What changes about AV rental in Miami.

Daylight decides the screens. A projector that works in a ballroom washes out on a rooftop or a pool deck in the afternoon, so daytime outdoor shows get high-brightness LED walls speced for the sun angle at your start time — a 2pm doors and a 6pm doors are different builds. Those sites rarely have rigging or usable power, so ground support, distribution, and often a generator are speced on the site walk, handled by our crew, and itemized.

Salt air and humidity are hard on anything that lives outside, so outdoor speakers run weather-covered, connectors are sealed, spares stay on site, and gear is inspected back at the shop after a beachfront show. In the beach districts the sound also has to stop at the property line, where complaints get acted on, so speakers are aimed at the audience rather than the condo tower across the street, and the curfew is written into the run-of-show.

Load-in is its own discipline. Collins Avenue hotel docks are shared and tight, the causeways back up, and during Art Basel in December and Miami Music Week in March every dock, crew, and lift in the beach districts is contested. The wireless spectrum gets as crowded as the docks, so mics are coordinated on site on show day, with backups staged. The gear and the technicians travel from our LA shop, with freight and travel listed on the quote.

Two AV quotes for the “same” event can be far apart, and the gap is rarely the speakers. It’s the room, the program, and what a cheaper quote quietly leaves out. Here’s what actually moves the number, so you can compare quotes line by line.

Room size & headcount

Bigger rooms need more coverage, not just more volume: more speakers, bigger screens, and sometimes delay speakers for the back rows.

Mics & sources

Every wireless mic, laptop, and playback source is a channel to coordinate and mix. A six-person panel takes more to run cleanly than one presenter.

Screens

A display on a stand is the simplest. Projection needs a screen and a room you can dim. An LED wall wins in bright rooms and at big sizes, and costs the most.

Rigging
